As I was preparing Shelly’s annual evaluation, it became quite apparent that she has gone above and beyond the call of duty this past year. Shelly was a major support to an individual as he battled Leukemia and all the medical procedures he had to deal with including chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Shelly provided overnight hospice so he wouldn’t be alone in his time of need and to give his home care provider much needed respite. Shelly has dealt with several other tough situations involving individuals and family members this past year as well. On top of everything else, she has picked up additional case management duties since the summer. This has ensured the smooth delivery of quality supports, care to the individuals, and has saved the agency tremendously by limiting the amount of overtime usage. Shelly’s sense of humor, compassion, and overall good nature make her approachable to both staff and individuals. She is a team player and provides a nice balance to the Program Director structure at the Supported Community Living Program.
For these reasons, I nominated Shelly Mustakangas for Employee of the Month for January 2011.
