Vital Volunteer Opening

Are you passionate about the safety and well-being of persons with disabilities?

Apply to serve as a Human Rights Committee Member.

Who should apply: Medical professionals, lawyers, clinicians, and family members of persons with disabilities.

Responsibility: The mandate of the Human Rights Committee (HRC) is to affirm, promote, and protect the human rights of the people we support. HRC members review the safeguards that uphold the Standards to Promote Dignity and prevent the loss or misuse of human rights. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the review and approval of behavior plans, oversight of restraint orders and investigations, and advising the agency director on policies and procedures of the agency and their compliance with human rights regulations. These reviews ensure that treatment is delivered in the least restrictive and most typical setting possible, and in the least intrusive manner. They also ensure that consent is truly informed.

Time Commitment: Monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 4:30 PM in Fitchburg. Members of the committee review the meeting materials, available electronically, prior to the meeting. While meeting in person is preferred, committee members are able to attend the meeting via video conference when necessary. Regular attendance is critical.

Why Serve? Sharing your time, talent, and enthusiasm will make a significant impact on the people The Arc of Opportunity supports. Please consider this unique opportunity as a means not only to make a difference for The Arc of Opportunity but to enhance your skills and experience while giving back to the community.

Application Process: Submit an email to Rene Sullivan (r.sullivan@arcofopportunity.org) stating your interest in the position and the expertise you would bring to the committee.

Deadline: July 31, 2018.
