Acquiring a new roommate is never an easy transition. Many questions can create an uneasiness around this life change. Will I like them? Will they like me? Will my day-to-day routines change? The four individuals living at the Appletree Residence expressed all of these questions and more when discussing the arrival of a new roommate. With continued discussion and preparation by the Residential Team, Appletree welcomed Maryellen to her new home. From day one of her arrival, she has brought new life and a breath of fresh air into the house.
Maryellen is a 23-year-old young woman who loves music, art, make-up, social media, and politics. She has a quick mind, a vibrant sense of humor, and loves to engage in conversation about her many interests. Maryellen has a passion for music, which is heavily influenced by rapper Niki Minaj. She knows many specific personal and professional details about Minaj and can sing every song from memory. Maryellen's love for music also serves as inspiration for her art.
Maryellen has an amazing talent for drawing. Whether she creates a portrait, a still life drawing, a witty comic about her life or scenes from preferred movies/TV shows, Maryellen can put to paper whatever her mind imagines. Her new room replicates an art museum covered in self-created expression.
Maryellen also has a strong voice. She holds well-informed political beliefs while respecting that her opinion may be different from others. Maryellen is an advocate of people making up their minds for themselves. She is looking forward to voting in the Presidential Primary and, “Making my vote count!” She expresses her political views on her Social Media and welcomes debating different beliefs. When asked about her thoughts on her new home, Maryellen said, "I enjoy my new house, with nice housemates and wonderful staff."
Maryellen’s arrival has inspired the resident's Appletree to express their interests, beliefs, and share their talents. When asked to share thoughts about their new roommate, Mickey said, "She is a nice addition to our house." and another roommate Zach said, "I enjoy watching Family Guy, going out for ice cream, and playing board games together." The Arc would like to join the Appletree residence in welcoming Maryellen!
