Briana’s Story

Briana has been a cherished member of our AFC program for multiple years now. This last year has been anything but ordinary for Briana. Many changes have occurred, and she has handled these with grace, strength and resilience.

Briana had been living in Gardner when an unanticipated situation came up, causing Briana to be placed with a new care provider. Briana moved to Fitchburg in March, and she has adapted beautifully to her new environment. Briana went from not attending day program, to attending 3 days per week, to transitioning to full time, and she has been thoroughly enjoying herself while she's there. Briana is now significantly more engaged in the community as well as with her peers in her day program.

We have seen Briana make significant strides since arriving at her new home. Briana's new provider is always bringing Briana out and about, which Briana loves. They go for regular walks, on shopping trips, and even find new activities such as going to the farm or the beach! Briana is now using utensils at mealtimes instead of her hands, bringing her dirty dishes to the sink, and showing greater independence and curiosity about her surroundings.

Briana’s AFC care team, together with the staff in her day program and her new provider, have helped make this transition much smoother. The guidance and support of Briana’s guardian in making decisions in her best interest has been invaluable. Briana continues to learn and explore new experiences, and it has been a joy to watch her flourish.
