Barbara has participated in lots of fun activities and community events since moving in with the Cooley family in Shirley, Ma. Barbara has been with the Cooley family since April 2014. Her family consists of Troy, Carolyn, and Makenzie who is Troy and Carolyn’s nine year old daughter. They also have a cat, Hercules who is 15 years old and a dog, Maggie is who 8 years old. Barbara enjoys feeding both the dog and cat as well as giving them attention on a daily basis.
Along with helping out with the animals, Barbara has also enjoyed taking on the responsibility of helping with certain chores within the home such as cleaning the dishes and placing her own dishes in the dishwasher after their family dinner each night.
Barbara enjoys her independence and community involvement and so when Barbara realized that Saint Anthony Catholic church was located directly across the street (Barbara was raised Catholic), she was excited to know that she could attend each Saturday afternoon independently. Barbara takes pride walking to/from church each Saturday afternoon independently. Since attending this church, Barbara has made lots of new friends.
In addition to attending church each Saturday afternoon, Barbara also enjoyed her leisure time lounging in the pool soaking up the sun. During those hot summer days, you would most likely find Barbara on a float in the pool. She also enjoyed attending the Saint Anthony church fair where she made several attempts to “dunk” her provider in the dunk tank. Unfortunately, Barbara was unsuccessful at this attempt, but got lots of laughs trying!
Barbara also enjoyed a few day trips to Foxwoods Casino, a Red Sox game, the St. Bernard’s fair, and Cape Verdean Parade in New Bedford, Ma. Now that summer has come to an end, Barbara is enjoying this cooler weather with her provider family by attending Mackenzie’s school talent show and Pop Warner football games where Mackenzie is a cheerleader. Barbara always has the option to stay home, but chooses to participate fully in the family events, and has become a dedicated fan rooting during the games. Barbara looks forward to the upcoming holiday season with her new providers and family!
