  • Overview

    Leisure and social activities play an important role in the emotional and social development of children and adults with developmental disabilities. The extensive variety of recreation programs, sponsored by Arc Community Services, provides fun, relaxation and social opportunities for hundreds of people every year.

  • Weekend Recreation Club

    The Weekend Recreation Club (formerly the Drop-In Club) offers a variety of social and leisure activities to participants over the age of 18. Club dues are $10.00 per visit plus the cost of activities scheduled that day. Members receive a bi-monthly calendar listing the activities and hours of operation for each weekend. Prospective members receive a handbook and complete an intake packet prior to their first visit.

    The Weekend Recreation Club is generally open on Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Activities include beach trips, fairs, shopping, movies, etc.

    Arc Community Services offers a variety of opportunities for people of all ages to participate in individual and team competition sports.

    • Special Olympics

      Arc Community Services is the local program in the North Central area for Special Olympic sports. The minimum age to train is six years old, but an athlete cannot compete until the age of eight years old. Special Olympics offers training programs for a wide variety of sports including swimming, track and field, traditional and unified basketball, cross country skiing, unified softball, and unified soccer.

      Thursdays:  July 9 – August 27

      Time: 6:00 pm–7:30 pm
      Place: Mason’s Bowling Center: 640 Main St., Leominster
      Cost: $4.00 per week (Please pay fee to ARC volunteers, NOT directly to Mason’s)
      Ages: 6 thru Adult (under 18 MUST have parent or responsible adult present and willing to keep score )

      Mini golf will not be cancelled due to bad weather. In case of rain, league will bowl indoors instead of mini golfing that evening.

      Volunteer scorekeepers are NEEDED to let this program continue!

  • Vacations

    ARC Community Services sponsors vacation trips for both families and individual travelers. Destinations have included Wildwood, New Jersey, Canada, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Disney World and Cape Cod.

    Families are encouraged to enjoy a family vacation with all the planning and details taken care of for them. ARC provides volunteer chaperones for independent and semi-independent travelers with a 1:3 ratio. Chaperones provide general support and supervision during activities and assist with money management.

    • Vacation 2012 to DISNEYWORLD, FL

      It’s Time to Start Planning NEXT YEAR’S Vacation!!!

      Time for the long awaited return to DISNEY WORLD!

      Saturday – Thursday, December 1-6, 2012

      This is a great time of year to travel to Disney World – weather is generally good, crowds are generally low, prices are at their best, and the “World” has on its magical holiday decorations!

      Trip Includes transportation, air fare, transfers, hotel, admission to all 4 Disney parks and Universal Studio, breakfast each morning, 1 Character Dinner, taxes and luggage handling.

      PRICE: Prices are per person, double occupancy, based on minimum numbers; single, triple and quad occupancy pricing available. Price is approximate; prices cannot be finalized until final count and airline pricing is set for 2012.

      Individuals traveling with family members or privately arranged 1:1 chaperone (available on a 1:1 basis only)  - $1,285 per person

      Individuals traveling on a 3:1 basis with an Arc provided volunteer chaperone – $1,675 per person


      Reservations now being accepted. Deposit of $250.00 per person due by January 10, 2012 – what a great holiday gift! Payments may be made monthly to spread the cost throughout the year; final balance due by September 30, 2012.

      Join us for our “luxury” camping weekend. Rustic cabins, but twin beds, indoor bathrooms, showers and electricity in each dormitory style cabin.

      Weekend includes take out lunch Saturday, cookout Saturday evening, chaperone prepared breakfast, lunch on Sunday and campfire with S’mores and songs Saturday night (weather permitting).  Enjoy lakefront activities – swimming, paddle boats, a pontoon boat ride and more.
