Will's Journey

Will (pictured here in the center), a member of The Arc of Opportunity’s AFC program, was recently accepted to the Berkshire Hills Music Academy. Will graduated from Nashoba Regional High School, and participated in their Transition program until turning 22. Will’s mother Lori had considered various options for residential programming and found that Berkshire Hills seemed to be the best fit for Will.

It was a long, and at times difficult journey for Will to get to where he is now. Will used to be terrified of performing in front of others. Will was able to overcome this fear with the help of his parents, teachers at Nashoba, where he participated in chorus, and the Boston Conservatory, where he performed in piano recitals. Will’s love of music, along with his hard work and that of those supporting him, enabled him to be one of only 20 students accepted into the two-year program at Berkshire Hills. This program not only offers hands-on instruction from professional music teachers, including lessons, ensembles, and recitals, it’s also designed to transition students to a more independent lifestyle by teaching daily living skills, self-determination, interpersonal skills, and employment.

The Arc’s AFC staff are sad to see Will leave the program, but we congratulate him and his supportive family for this accomplishment. We hope that this next phase of his life is filled with new opportunities for continued growth and happiness.
