Tony's Story

Confidence is crucial. Have you ever lost the opportunity to speak up for yourself, lacking confidence at a critical moment? That was how Tony, a person with a disability, experienced the world. Tony is sometimes shy and soft-spoken yet has become a powerful spokesperson when addressing disability rights. Tony is most passionate about access to public transportation, jobs, and healthcare that allow him and others with disabilities to be fully participating members of their communities.Tony built confidence through the Self-Advocacy group, part of The Arc’s Family Supports. This program receives no funding and yet is the platform for developing the confidence and skills needed to advocate for disability rights. Self-Advocacy provides Tony with meaningful opportunities to voice his concerns by visiting the State House, attending town hall meetings, and asking legislators questions on issues that matter to those with disabilities. Tony votes in every election giving him the power to affect the lives of people with disabilities.

The Arc empowers Tony and so many others to overcome the marginalization of people with disabilities. Family Supports has provided an opportunity for Tony to grow his confidence and educate himself on issues that matter.

Tony is championing his own confidence.

Thanks to generous donors such as yourself, Tony and so many other individuals achieve their potential at The Arc. Family Supports is pivotal in the lives of the individuals and families we support by providing life-changing opportunities, personal growth, and community connections. It takes an incredible person to help us honor our commitment to Family Supports and we are grateful to have you as our supporter. As you plan your year-end giving, please consider a gift to The Arc of Opportunity that will keep individuals achieving their full potential. In holiday spirit,
