  • Benefits

The Alliance for Resource Management, Inc. intends to share the responsibility of providing for the well-being of all employees. To this end we try to offer a Benefit and compensation package that has people ‘taken care of’ as well as getting them all possible compensation.

We offer a range of shared-cost Health Insurance options, including a ‘high’ deductible Plan that many people have chosen to reduce their monthly Premium and related costs. After a full 60 day waiting period, and commencing on the first of the next month employees are eligible for enrollment. We offer ‘Domestic Partner’ coverage at the Family premium rate.

We offer shared-cost Dental Insurance, including an orthodontic benefit.

Employees can pay for their Health/Dental Premiums as well as reportable dependent–care expenses through the 125 Trust Plan. This allows a predetermined amount to be paid pre-tax, allowing for reduced taxable income and increased take-home pay.

Office, Day Program(s) and all exempt employees observe those Holidays regularly recognized by the State and Federal governments.

Residential staff accrue the equivalent of 10 days per year (at .825 days or 6.75 hours per month for full-timers and pro-rated for part-timers conditioned for 20 or more hours per week). Because of the need for staff coverage on a 365 days per year basis, this time is not attached to specific holidays and the time is added to vacation time and unused time is paid upon separation.

Full timers (those conditioned to work 40 hours per week) accrue Vacation time at the rate of 6.75 hours per month, for a total of 80 hours per year during the first two years of employment. After 24 consecutive months the accrual rate is 10 hours per month, after 60 months 13.50 hours per month, and after 120 consecutive months the accrual rate is 16.75 hours per month. Accrued time begins accumulating upon the first day of the first full month of hire, but use is subject to a three month waiting period.

*Part timers who are conditioned to work 20 or more hours per week accrue time on a pro-rated basis (for example: a person conditioned for a 20 hour week accrues at 1/2 the above rates, for a 30 hour week at 3/4 the above rates, etc.).

Exempt employees accrue 13.50 Vacation hours per month upon hire and 16.75 hours per month after 120 consecutive months.

After a full 60 day waiting period, and commencing on the first of the next month, all employees who are conditioned to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for Long-term Disability and Life Insurance at no cost to themselves. This policy pays 66.67% of your regular monthly earnings in the case of disability due to accident or illness certified by a health care Provider and approved by the Insurance carrier that is NOT work related after a 13 week elimination period, and pays your designated beneficiary the equivalent of your annual salary rounded to the nearest thousand in the event of death or accidental death/dismemberment.

Non-exempt employees who are conditioned to work 20 or more hours per week may purchase Short-term Disability for coverage of 66.67% of their regular weekly earnings in the case of disability due to accident or illness certified by a health care Provider and approved by the Insurance carrier that is NOT work related for up to 13 weeks.

Regular non-exempt staff who are conditioned for 20 or more hours per week are awarded the equivalent of 1 Sick day per month (or 12 days per year). This time is to be used in the case of illness subject to supervisory approval. This time may be carried from year to year and accumulates to a maximum of 14 weeks.

Exempt employees are not awarded Sick time but are covered through a salary continuation plan before and until eligible for Long-term Disability coverage.

Employees 21 years of age and older, may set up a 401K Retirement Plan that features Agency Contribution after one year of employment by direct payment to a number of options. With Agency contribution this becomes an instant financial benefit.

ARM, Inc. also participates in a variety of Education assistance programs, including in-house tuition reimbursement.

Additionally, we offer a Recruitment Incentive Bonus for employees who refer others that are successfully placed.

We have Employee of the Month programs at both ARC and Matson where individual staff are recognized at Full Staff Meetings and receive a Certificate and check.

We, of course, comply with all State and Federal entitlement requirements including Workers’ Compensation, Unemployment, Social Security, etc.

Please contact the Human Resources Department 978-345-6301 or j.casperson@arminc.info for information on enrollment, costs, and further details on all Agency Benefits.

  • FAQs

Why do you only list some current job opportunities?
Our Supports are so diverse and situated at so many locations throughout the Central Mass. region, and we prefer to promote from within and encourage appropriate transfers from within, that we would need to literally list openings on a daily basis. We do not have the luxury of having an ‘IT’ person who can update our listings daily. We would rather have people inquire about ‘up to the minute’ opportunities than to apply for a position which may or may not be available. Although most positions feature a regular schedule, employees are hired to work for the Agency and may be asked to work at a program for which they are qualified other than their home based site on an as-needed basis. Give us a call.

What experience do you need to start?
We have positions that require extensive experience and/or education depending on the job requirements and level of responsibility. We also have entry-level positions where we ask for a High School Diploma or equivalent, ‘uncommon sense’, a professional or educational reference, an acceptable Criminal Record (CORI) check, a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record and a solid work ethic. A sense of humor doesn’t hurt. EACH of our positions features a set of required Trainings for which employees are paid and that meet regulations and practical needs of providing supports. Since we deal with Peoples’ lives, much of what we do is assist individuals with problem-solving and daily issues we all face. Thus, as much as we provide technical training like CPR, First Aid, Medication administration, etc. it really often comes down to ‘uncommon sense’ in helping individuals realize their fullest potential given their unique circumstances.

Why do I need a license?
All of our Program Sites have assigned vehicles for use in getting our Program participants to appointments, social events, and any desired inclusive community activities. There are countless household/Program related tasks that involve driving and for us to require some but not all staff to drive would cause a scheduling nightmare!

How old do you have to be to work at the Residential Programs?
Given that the Department of Labor requires employees to be at least 18 to be able to drive as part of their duties (see above) the minimum age is 18. The exception is our Urban Youth Collaborative Program for which 17 to 24 year olds are eligible. Hiring 17 year olds for this seasonal Program is contingent upon the ability to provide adequate staffing patterns.

How long is the application process?
We have set a goal of determining whether or not to extend an employment offer within two weeks of receiving a written application. However, along with an initial screening interview, there will (minimally) be one site visit and, possibly more than one, depending on the vacancies, and YOUR interests and abilities. We also require a written reference, CORI check, and drivers record check. Some of these are out of our control, but the reference and drivers record can be expedited by YOU. This is extremely intimate and often intense work and, though we like to move the application process through quickly, we will not sacrifice thoroughness for expediency. We take the employment relationship quite seriously and hope to make the best possible mutual match.

What is the goal of individuals in Residential programs?
The Agency Mission is to provide lifetime opportunities for individuals to realize their fullest potential. The key is ‘individual’. A simple example might be financial/money management. At one Program you might be working with an individual whose ‘ultimate’ money management goal would be to go down to the corner store and buy a soda and get the correct change. At another you might work with an individual that’s working on weekly and monthly budgeting. We actually once had an individual who lived in her own apartment, managed her own checkbook, and told us, as well as State Licensing Authorities, that her personal finances were none of our business!

    What training is offered?
As mentioned (see above) we have regulatory and common-sense requirements. Along with those cited above, we provide; Basic Safety Training, Sensitivity – ‘Take a Walk in my shoes’, Agency and Program Orientation, Dysphasia, Management Series, and a variety of In-House Training activities to enhance job skills. We encourage people to take advantage of the extensive offerings through the State and to let us know what they might be interested in exploring.

Where does the money come from?
The Alliance for Resource Management and its affiliates, Matson Community Services and ARC Community Services, are private non-profit organizations. We contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for something like 90% of our funding through several State Agencies. We also have some Commercial Enterprises, extensive Fund-Raising events, United Way funding and private contributions. These funds support our staffing, equipment and supplies, administration, and all operating costs, In Residential Programs the individuals either pay a Program fee toward ‘room and board’ or, in the case of individuals living semi-independently, pay rent and their living expenses. It is important to note that we are not a ‘State Agency’ but, again, receive most of our funding, certification, and contracts through the State.

What are the opportunities for advancement?
Literally, endless. Our Senior Administrative team averages over 20 years of experience with the Agency. Most of us began as direct support professionals and advanced along with the Agency and its mission. We prefer to promote from within and find it perfectly appropriate and encourage that employees strive to advance with us.

  • Internships

The Alliance for Resource Management is committed to working with all educational establishments to provide meaningful, beneficial experiences for students.

Practicum, field work and internship programs have been designed by working closely with educators and we continue to provide structured experiences tailored to curricula from business to special education based on individual need and course work.

We have hosted students fulfilling requirements for Counseling, Recreation, Non-Profit Management, Clerical, Case Management, Nursing, Teaching, Habilitation and Rehabilitation programs, to name a few.

Each student is connected with an Agency Supervisor who will coordinate the experience, serve as the contact person for the school, and act as the primary resource person and supervisor for the student. ARM personnel are also available to make presentations for groups of students, faculty, classes or other groups.

School personnel and/or students may contact the Human Resource Department at (978) 345-6301 or email j.casperson@arminc.info for further information or to initiate the process of establishing an educational experience.
