Recreation Program attends Unity Day Native American Inter-tribal Pow Wow

On May 16th 2015, the Weekend Recreation Club visited the 20th Anniversary ‘Unity Day Native American Inter–tribal Pow Wow’ in Devens.  We were treated to the experience of many ‘cultures’ celebrating their uniqueness together!

Especially excited to be there was Bill, a frequent participant in our Saturday activities with his wife.  Bill is proud to claim 3/8 Native American heritage with the Cherokee Nation.  ‘Silver Arrow’ – his Native American name - bonded readily with Betty (‘Walks Beside Me’), a former employee of The United Arc, who sought us out and served as our personal hostess.

We were educated as to various dances, drum-themed music, traditions and hand-crafted wares and met some lovely people.

Pictured are;  Silver Arrow and Walks Beside Me (with drum in hand) and a group of various tribal members describing their heritage(s) to our group.
