Oh! Canada!

From June 11 to June 15, thirty hardy travelers braved marathon-like bus rides, challenging and changing weather conditions, and international crowds for the Recreation Department’s 2015 Annual Major trip, this time to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada.

The first day was consumed by travel, checking into the Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel, dinner at the Fallsview Resort Casino and an IMAX presentation on the history and legends of The Falls.

On the second day we EXPERIENCED the Falls in every conceivable way; above the Falls from many vantage points, behind the Falls through a series of tunnels, to the base of Horseshoe Falls on the Hornblower disembarking just in time for a brief but noisy and mighty cloudburst.  We stopped for lunch at the Rainforest café, spent the afternoon at the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum followed by the evening dinner show, “Oh Canada, Eh”.

On day three, we packed up and proceeded to Toronto where we stopped at the massive downtown mall for shopping and lunch.  We then rocketed to the top of the CN Tower inviting a terrified traveler from Greece to join our group who declared from the top observatory, “It was totally worth it”.   We enjoyed a brief boat ride on Lake Ontario followed by the evening’s highlight, dinner and entertainment at Medieval Times, a fabulous journey in time travel to the days of Knights in Shining Armor, fair damsels, Kings and Queens and dining hand-to mouth.

We spent day four at the Canada Wonderland Park where it drizzled or poured most of the day.  We split into groups, some people determined to experience all the rides in what had to be the roller coaster capital of Canada while others enjoyed less harrowing experiences, catching a show, touring the Park, and sampling the endless treats therein.  Our day ended with a relaxing dinner at the Hot House Café.

On day five, we packed our bags, made our way through Customs without a hitch and began our long journey home.  With many thanks to our seasoned chaperones, there were games and entertainment for the long bus ride that took an hour and a half longer than anticipated.

As always, there was a whirlwind of activity, great food, new and unique adventures with people for us all to remember with a smile.
