Kevin Hopes to Achieve his Goals through Dedication and Perserverance

Kevin is a member of Boy Scout Troop 823 that meets at The Arc of Opportunity on Thursday evenings.   Additionally, he and his family are participants of The Arc’s Adult Family Care program.   He has been a member of the troop for 25 years and has been involved in scouting for most of his life, becoming a Tiger Cub when he was six years old.  Kevin has earned many merit badges over the years and is currently working towards the highest honor a Boy Scout can attain, his Eagle Scout project, and has been immersed in this project for over three years.

Kevin attends GAAMHA in Gardner where he originally wanted his to convert one of their buildings into a farmer’s market where produce grown at his day program could be sold as his Eagle Scout project.   Kevin decided after the passing of the Executive Director of GAAMHA in 2013, who he had a great deal of respect and admiration for, to build a pergola and benches to complete a park at GAAMHA dedicated in her memory.  Although he knew this may be a challenging task, the pergola will be built directly on site whereas Kevin and his troop have already constructed, sanded and stained the benches and ready for them to be transferred to Gardner.  Everyone involved is eagerly anticipating the completion of the project and the dedication of this memorial.

Kevin has displayed dedication and perseverance to his troop and his Eagle Scout project through the countless hours raising funds and soliciting donations to make his project a reality.

Kevin said that working on his Eagle Scout project makes him feel great, all of his friends have supported him through the project and are rooting for his success, and above all, scouting makes him feel like a winner.

Once the project is complete, Kevin will need to submit paperwork to a review board and obtain the approval of the national Boy Scouts before he can become an Eagle Scout.  Kevin is planning to have his Eagle Scout ceremony in the spring of 2015.
