Children's Cinco de Mayo Celebration

The Arc of Opportunity's Family Support and Recreation program, in partnership with Noreen Alves of Strengthening Families, hosted a children’s Cinco de Mayo celebration at The Arc on Tuesday, May 5.  Participants created their own personalized tacos from ingredients supplied in The Arc’s Teaching Kitchen, then engaged in crafting their own maracas with help from family and friends in the café.

The Family Support/Recreation department is expanding to offer activities, educational resources and responsive supports to our younger population and their families and welcomes requests and suggestions from the community.  As well as the Cinco de Mayo party, we’ve hosted a Valentine’s Day celebration, Christmas get-together, and sponsor the area’s Special Olympics Young Athletes (age 3 to 8) skills building program.  We continue to explore meaningful endeavors.

Pictured are Jay-Vion, Brayden and Paysha patiently waiting their turn for the bean bag toss competition. Also pictured, is Jay-Vion putting an exclamation point on the festivities by unleashing all the energy a six year old can produce in liberating the contents of a brightly colored piñata.
