Donna, who lives at one of The Arc of Opportunity’s group residences, recently expressed an interest in gardening. The Residential Manager and Assistant Residential Manager of her program kicked right into action, looking for ways to make gardening more adaptable for Donna as her residence has no gardening space and she was unable to reach the ground to care for her plants. Soon, they identified planting boxes that would attach to the railing on the porch of her home as a plausible option. Donna was thrilled as she shopped to pick out her planting boxes and choose flowers to plant and care for.
Today, Donna’s outdoor “garden” has flourished and she has even raised the interest of some other housemates to assist her in caring for her beautiful creation as often as possible.
Next year Donna looks forward to trying out herbs and tomatoes and exploring more options for gardening within her community!
