Beverly, better known as “Bev” has been attending our Weekend Recreation Program for 2 ½ years. Within the past year Bev’s attendance for recreation started to dwindle. She often told her Home Care Provider that she didn’t enjoy many of the activities. Last fall, the Weekend Recreation Program has taken off with a different momentum and focus with a plethora of new ideas.
By the holidays, Bev was attending the Weekend Recreation Program weekly. She was eager and enthusiastic about the activities and developed friendships. One of the recreation events in particular involved Christmas caroling and dinner at The Old Mill. The next evening she was watching television at home with her Provider. Seeing a movie scene where people were caroling elicited a joyous response from Bev. She shouted, “I did that the other day with my friends”. She was now considering the Recreation program as quality time with friends instead of another event to attend. Bev’s Home Care Provider explained to us how much happier she had been and attributed that to the Weekend Recreation Team and Program.
Her attendance at the Weekend Recreation Program remains consistent. Recently, the group celebrated The Chinese New Year with some Asian cuisine and a trip to Heifer International in Rutland, MA.
