The Arc of Opportunity Media Room

The Arc of Opportunity has greatly increased program participant’s access to technology within the last year. A media room with five new desktop computers was added to our day program building (this includes the CBDS and Day Hab programs). We also have five iPads, three of which were added this year, that are shared between the two programs.

This increase in tech devices has allowed program participants the chance to increase their skills in the areas of typing, internet usage, and general writing skills. Practicing these skills will afford program participants greater independence when they are practicing filling out online job applications and typing up resumes, as well as searching for new community and volunteer opportunities. There are free programs on the iPad that can be used to assist with communication, such as picture boards that utilize sound, for those who are non-verbal or have difficulty with speech.  Program participants can also use these devices for leisure activities such as games and watching videos/listening to music. The possibilities are endless!

Many jobs and volunteer opportunities require the use of tech devices, so these additions are crucial to program participant’s growth and development, and are a great way for some to connect with family and friends through social media. We hope to add more devices in the future to increase these opportunities and continue to look for new programs that benefit those we serve.
