MAINE GETAWAY WEEKEND BLOG
“Off to the Races” was the buzz that filled the air as twenty people boarded the bus early Saturday morning for a weekend trip to the coast of Maine. The trip was a huge success last year and everyone was excited to repeat the experience.
The ride gave opportunity to make new friends as well as catching up with old friends as the radio cranked out our favorite tunes. Our first stop was the Scarborough Downs Racetrack where we made our way to reserved seats in the Grandstand. We enjoyed a pizza party lunch and anxiously awaited the races to start. Our seats offered a fantastic view with vast windows that over looked the racetrack where we watched the magnificent horses prance by as they prepared for racing.
The highlight of the races came when they announced the seventh race as the “Arc Community Services Race”. We all cheered like mad. At the end of the “Arc” race, security escorted us to the track where our picture was taken with the winning horse.
Next, we headed over to our hotel that sits on the water at Old Orchard Beach. We unpacked our belongings, enjoyed a short walk on the beach, and headed out for a fantastic seafood dinner. After dinner, we fed our leftovers to the waiting seagulls in the restaurant parking lot. From there, it was back to the hotel for a dip in the pool and relax at the beachfront before retiring for the evening.
After a good night’s sleep, we were off for an amazing all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast and explored the old downtown Orchard Beach area. We then boarded the bus and admired the coastal scenery on our way to Wells Beach. Upon arrival, we spent some time shopping, played games at the arcade, and walked on the beach.
As the weekend concluded, we reminisced the experiences of our trip over a delicious lunch. Although it was hard to agree on just one activity that was most enjoyable, it was unanimous that spending time and having fun with friends was at the top of the list.
