Daniel Boateng – Employee Recognition
In July, I was asked to oversee a program in Pepperell that had a vacant Program Director position. One of my first tasks was to recruit staff to work in Pepperell. After reviewing the list of potential relief staff, I decided to ask Daniel if he could cover just one shift. I remember Daniel saying, “Where is Pepperell?” I assured him that I would meet him at a familiar location and show him the way to Pepperell. For Daniel, this ride is over one hour long. He agreed to the assignment to help a program in need.
Sometimes when a person knows they are only assigned to a home on a temporary basis, they do not put all their effort into the position and just do minimal work. Daniel could have easily come into the program for one shift, done the minimal that needed to be done, and returned to his regular assignment in Worcester. However, he did not and one shift turned into many shifts. The home has never looked as clean. He helped organize the paperwork, got rid of junk, cleaned the house from one end to the other, and treated the people that live at Foster Street as if they were is own family. The people he supports are laughing and having a good time.
Daniel is an excellent role model to his co-workers and is always willing to think outside the box. Daniel, thank you for all your time you gave to help a program that was in need of some one like you.
