Deb Riley & Sheryl Murphy – Employee Recognition Award Recipients

May 2010:

Deb started working in our Day Habilitation program in October 2009. She has a great sense of humor and boundless energy.  Deb has the amazing skill of drawing the best qualities out of each person.  Deb can always be found in the hallway encouraging individuals to participate in PT even when they really do not want to do so.  By the conclusion of an exercise session, the individual has succeeded in working on the exercises that they needed and had fun doing so.  She can take ordinary activities and infuse them with her enthusiasm.    For her dedication and commitment, Deb Riley is recognized as Employee of the Month for May 2010.  Congratulations and thank you, Deb.

June 2010:

Several weeks ago, a vast quantity of Girl Scout Cookies was donated to the agency. This was seen as an opportunity for our individuals to forge new connections into the community by paying it forward. Sheryl Murphy was asked to help redistribute these donations out into the community. Sheryl was given suggestions about community groups who might be able to use cookies and she was asked to bring individuals from different programs to make the deliveries. Sheryl immediately expanded the number of individuals who were invited to deliver the donations because she knew how many of our people enjoy helping out. One obvious helper had been overlooked but Sheryl remembered how much Janet likes to help anyone out and Sheryl invited Janet to join in. Sheryl was motivated by who would enjoy the task rather than concerned about making her own day easier. There was an issue with one person wanting to go who needed medications while they would be delivering the donations. Sheryl said, “No problem; I’ll come by the building so he can get his meds”.  She build her schedule around the individual’s needs, which is one  example of what we try to do as an agency by putting the individual first and doing what’s best for them, not what’s best for us. For all the ways that Sheryl Murphy goes beyond the call of duty, she is honored as Employee of the Month for June, 2010.
