Larry’s Vacation
Larry was able to go on his first vacation this past summer with the assistance of SCL case management. His case manager helped him apply for and move into subsidized housing. Moving into his new apartment enabled him to save enough money for his dream vacation.
Larry chose to go to Cape Cod because of his love of the ocean, fishing and seafood. He liked the atmosphere of his motel in Dennis Port and being on the water. He took pleasure in sitting by the pool socializing with other vacationers. Larry and his 1:1 staff specially enjoyed drinking their early morning coffee while sitting by the ocean. They talked about plans for the day and dreamed about living there someday.
Larry often reminisces about driving the National Seashore, touring a local light house, walking the beach and shopping for T-shirts. He also speaks of catching 3 fish while deep sea fishing and eating lobsters and steamers every day! Larry had such a great time; he chose to extend his vacation and stayed another day. He is currently saving his money so he can return next summer.
It is with great sadness that we report Larry’s passing on February 22, 2010 before the final construction of this website.
It was a pleasure and an honor for all of us at the SCL program to have had the opportunity to work with Larry. He added pizzazz to all of our lives and taught us a few things along the way. Larry taught us that life isn’t always fair, but it’s still good; to be true to who we are, the good the bad and the ugly; and that dreams really do come true. Larry will be missed greatly.
